MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
is
ordered by your physician to evaluate internal
body structures
without having to use X-ray or surgery. MRI uses the physical
properties of magnetic fields, radio waves, and computers to
generate images of soft tissues within the body. MRI is a
non-invasive procedure and there are no known side or after effects.
Patients are asked to lie on a table and remain still for
approximately 30 minutes to one hour depending on the test ordered.
During the examination, a faint knocking sound will be heard, which
is normal and is the operation of the imaging process. The images
are formed from signals emitted by tissue
in the body. The MRI
process captures different tissue characteristics and translates
them into different contrast levels on the image.
CatScan (CT)
Spiral
CT, 3D Reconstruction, CT angiography/aorta,
circle of willis, Carotids.
Computed Tomography is a diagnostic imaging
procedure that combines the use of x-rays with
computer technology to produce cross-sectional
images (slices) of the body. The images
produced by this are more detailed than
those of an ordinary x-ray (or radiograph).
Bioimaging
also offers a variety of examinations for self
referral preventative screening. These exams
are performed without a doctors order or
referral. Although not normally covered by major
health insurance, these exams are very
affordable and perfect for people that simply
want to be proactive with their health.
One of the
preventative exams we provide is a cardiac
score screening , which takes a close
look at the heart and the surrounding vessels,
and then measures your personal risk for heart
disease. The images are taken with a CT scanner
and the radiologist will transfer those images
into a computer program that will tag the
vessels that have any calcified plaque inside
them. This will score your risk and depending
on your number , recommendations are given to
you by your doctor for treatment options on your
future health. The exam is fast , easy,
comfortable and you should be in and out of our
office in less than 30 minutes. This exam is
great for people who have any family history of
heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, high
blood pressure, or chest pain. The cost of this
screening is only $99.00.
We also offer
chest, abdomen, and pelvis screenings.
Each of these are also performed using our
spiral CT scanner. The chest screening includes
the lungs. This is a great exam for smokers,
people with shortness of breath, chest pains, or
that have the major risk factors for lung
cancer. The lung screening exam is an
excellent test for finding lung cancer and can
detect tumors missed by a simple chest x-ray.
This screening also visualizes the other
structures of the chest, and can diagnose
calcification, enlarged lymph nodes, emphysema,
scarring, hiatus hernia and aortic aneurysms,
among other things. The cost for this screening
is $149.00.
Another preventative
exam we offer is the abdomen and pelvis
screening , and includes the liver,
spleen, pancreas, stomach, small and large
intestines, bladder, kidneys, prostate or
uterus/ovaries. This exam does require a
contrast drink before the exam that helps
highlights the stomach and colon. It will
require an hour wait time to travel through the
colon before your scan. This exam is $299.00.
One of the most
important proactive screening exam that we offer
is called a Virtual Colonoscopy.
According to the American Cancer Society ,
Colorectal Cancer kills 57,000 Americans each
year. These days, with advancements in modern
technology, screening for colorectal cancer the
second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the
U.S.- is just too easy, and early detection can
save thousands of lives. Colon Cancer usually
starts as a polyp. These small growths inside
the colon develop over a period of 5 to10 years
before actually becoming cancerous. Thats why
nearly 90% of deaths from the disease are
preventable with early screening. The ACS
recommends that men and women age 50 and up, or
anyone with a family history of colon cancer be
screened for colorectal cancer.
Unlike a traditional
colonoscopy, where the patient has to cleanse
the bowels with liquid laxative and is sedated
during the test, The Virtual Colonoscopy at
Bioimaging allows the patient to eat food from a
meal kit and use laxative pills. The exam is
very non-invasive and sedation is not even
necessary during the exam because the insertion
of a short rectal tube does not cause any great
discomfort. The screening takes about 20
minutes, during which a CT machine scans the
lower abdomen and creates a 3-D image that a
radiologist examines for any abnormalities. A
major benefit of this particular exam is the
ability to see outside the colon, allowing a
possible early diagnosis of other potential
problems. The cost of the virtual colonoscopy is
only $800.00. We also offer combo scans
at discounted rates. The cardiac score and lung
screen together are $220.00, and the chest,
abdomen and pelvis together are $399.00. Please
feel free to call us with any questions.
